Carolina Beach King Mackerel
We are just about to Celebrate Memorial Day,I hope everyone will remember our U.S.Military for this is what keeps us free. This is also the time of year the king mackerel show up along the beaches of the North Carolina coast, these fish are moving closer to the beach with the rising water temperatures making them accessible for the small boater. These fish offer great action on light tackle, the initial strike is a long hard run, making it a favorite game fish for many anglers.Live menhaden is the preferred bait, presentation slow trolled at a speed of 1 to 2 knots. or as slow as your boat will go.Remember the lighter your terminal tackle, the more strikes you will get, light line, light drag, let the fish run,and enjoy the action when he tires, increase the drag, just a little to bring him to the boat.

Carolina Beach Black Drum
I have been fishing for black drum on the east bank of the Cape Fear River, just south of Fort Fisher, this area is a solid rock wall jetty dividing the Cape Fear River from Buzzard Bay.I fish a Carolina rig, with freshest shrimp I can find, anchor up with in casting distance of the rock wall set back and wait for the reel to scream.I fish the area on a regular basis often catching speckle trout, and red fish.

Carolina Beach Flounder
I fished Monday 19th for flounder right in the Carolina Beach yacht basin, located some small mehaden for bait, anchored my boat right to the side of a small canal entrance water was only about 2' for it was dead low tide.I mostly use 10lb.test line, power pro line, and small wire circle hooks for they are light in weight & don't inhibit the small baits at all from swimming naturally in the water. Just as soon as the tide started to come in the flounder started to bite,I caught to flounders, then the bluefish moved in and stopped the flounder bite! It was a great afternoon of fishing, the first flounders of the season, right close to where I live !
